Outreach Education Programs

South Georgia Ballet is committed to bringing the art of dance to south Georgia and the surrounding area.  Through the generosity of local foundations and private donations we are able to provide exposure, enrichment and educational opportunities for area youth. This program is supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. GCA also receives support from its partner agency - the National Endowment for the Arts.

Step UP!

Step UP!, our outreach instructional program, offers weekly dance classes to children in Thomas and Grady Counties. Our Thomas County program brings children from the Marguerite Neel Williams Boys & Girls Club and the Thomasville Community Resource Center to the Thomasville Center for the Arts studios for weekly ballet classes coordinated by Melissa June, Outreach Education Director. As part of our expanding outreach, 3rd year Step UP! students are featured in our school matinee performances of The Nutcracker as Bon Bons! All Step UP! students in all locations will perform in the spring ballet as well as area festivals as those opportunities become available.

Our Grady County program, which began in 2003, works with the Grady County Board of Education to provide dance classes for area 1st-5th grade students. Dancers are bused to SGBC's studios for weekly instruction and will perform in the spring show in our season finale. We also partner with the Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club in Cairo to bring ballet classes to the Cairo area students.

TOES Enrichment Scholarship

In December of 2009 Cathy Campbell gave a $100 donation to start the TOES (Toe, Tap, Taffeta, Opportunity) scholarship fund in memory of her mother, Del Oglesby.  The fund accepts donations throughout the year and South Georgia Ballet contributes all proceeds from the show boutique sales as well as the sale of SGB photographs.

Scholarship applications are available for SGB Company members who wish to further their summer ballet studies to enhance their experience with South Georgia Ballet.  If you are interested in applying for a TOES scholarship for summer study with South Georgia Ballet or a high level training organization, please call 229-228-9420.
